500% growth in 12 months: the great storm is a challenge to learn sailing

Estonian Logistics & Freight Forwarding Association (ELEA) interviews Dmitri Zhukov, the head of 3P LOGISTICS OÜ in Estonia. Company has recently joined the association, and its head in Estonia shares the state of logistics in 2021.

How has the COVID-19 crisis affected the development of 3P LOGISTICS OÜ ?

3PLGROUP ™ has been very successful in the overall difficult economic situation. Paw Kristensen, the group’s CEO, states that the new strategy defined last year clearly adds meaningful values to the business, such as perseverance and courage. That strategy pays off: we were able to grow by about 500% in 12 months. We have realized that the great storm is a challenge to learn sailing, and we have taken up the challenge.

Are there any issues or hotspots that need more attention in the logistics and forwarding sector?

Huge increases in tariffs for all modes of transport – air, sea, rail, road. Lack of containers and trucks, lack of space on ships and planes.

What investments do you plan to make in the company in the next 5 years?

There is no better investment than investing in and recognizing your people. It is very important that people feel valued for both their abilities and their personality. That is why we will continue to invest in employees, but also, of course, in the IT system, education, social responsibility and other important areas.

How do you assess the competitiveness of Estonian companies in global markets?

Cooperation with international companies is a very big part of our business. We work with many different companies and the number of shipments is only growing.

What do you think about young people in today’s labor market and the quality of education in the logistics and forwarding sector?

Finding the right people is the key to all progress. We know our strategy and we know where we want to go, but it is difficult to find the right people. We plan to increase the number of employees in the near future, in the sales department and the operations department. We also plan to hire students with no work experience to teach them from scratch.
