Immigration flows may increase as companies got help to find workers in Belarus

LINPRA and Infobalt initiated a discussion with the Employment Service to facilitate and simplify the search for employees in the engineering industry and IT companies wishing to employ Belarusian citizens. During the discussion, it was agreed that the Employment Service will help to publish the recruitment advertisements of companies on a one-stop-shop basis and forward them to the Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus and employment agencies which have agreements with the Employment Service.

It will be an additional tool – an efficient channel, that will not cost companies anything. Companies which need to find employees in Belarus can fill the form of needs and suggestions for employees on the LINPRA website. The ad will automatically appear in the Employment Service database. The Employment Service will provide information – job search announcements to the Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus and the Belarusian employment agencies. These job postings will reach Belarusian citizens looking for work in Lithuania.

The position of Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LCI) on the formation of migration and demography policy is based on a proposal to delegate the implementation of related programs to one specific institution.

Increased immigration flows would compensate for the constant general decline in population and working-age population and ensure positive migration balance (+11 thousand or more). The total population would start to grow when simplified conditions for qualified specialists to come to Lithuania and find employment in those areas where there is a shortage of employees in Lithuania were created.

In its proposals, the LCI also noted the need to hold a separate discussion on quotas applied to foreigners coming to Lithuania to work according to the profession included in the list of professions for which there is a shortage of employees in Lithuania. From 1st January this year quotas were set for some sectors, but LPK argues they do not correspond to the real need at all.
