New head of The Enviromental Protection Agency sets priority to educate industrial sector

On Tuesday, Milda Račienė took over the position of the director of the Environmental Protection Agency after winning a competition and leaving 7 candidates behind.

According to Minister of Environment Simonas Gentvilas, the public has high expectations of the agency.

The Agency is a key organization, the brain of Lithuanian environmental protection. The ministry will provide stability to the institution, and it hopes for analysis, laboratory findings, and advice on how to regulate some sectors.

.According to the new head Milda Račienė, her priorities under the leadership of the Environmental Protection Agency will be:

  • to strengthen pollution prevention,
  • to manage risk prompt,
  • to educate the society and the industry
  • internal and external communication,

She joined the Environmental Protection Agency in 2011 as a Chief Specialist of the Regulatory Control and Pollution Prevention Implementation Division of the State Control Department of Environmental Protection. Since 2012 she headed the Pollution Prevention and Environmental Impact Assessment Division of the Pollution Prevention Department, and from 2018 was Director of the Pollution Prevention Department.

Milda Račienė has a doctorate in ecology and environmental sciences in the field of biomedical sciences. From 2018 she also works as a lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vytautas Magnus University.
