The Lithuanian life sciences sector grows its worldwide recognition

Lithuania really have something to be proud of: in 2020, exports of goods in the life sciences sector increased by 62% and reached 627 million euros. Even last month, a report published by the Financial Times’ investment monitoring and analysis unit, fDi Intelligence, emphasized that the global recognition of Lithuania’s fast-growing life sciences sector is helping to attract foreign companies and funding.

The Science, Innovation and Technology Agency (MITA), which has created a stand for the achievements of the Lithuanian life sciences industry, invites life sciences innovators once again to display their innovations and show the potential of Lithuanian life sciences.

“The Lithuanian-based biotechnology company has transferred the coronavirus drug to clinical trials”, “The first Lithuanian kit for the detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 has been developed,” “Lithuania has ambitions to produce active ingredients for COVID-19 vaccines” – such news follows.

“Indeed, people, who have not yet encountered the life sciences industry and learn the most significant achievements, find it is hard to believe how many start-ups and companies whose products and services are already valued in the world Lithuanian has,” says Tomas Vitkauskas, Head of MITA Project “Promoting Life Sciences Industry Development”.

Currently, the stand created by MITA interactively presents 7 innovations in the field of health technologies and biotechnologies: the world’s first 3D microforming machinery, that can process materials with incredible precision, gene editing scissors that can be programmed to correct diseases causing gene mutations, and more.

“We notice that visitors are longing for more interesting activities and are carefully inspecting the stand, interested in the innovations presented in it. We are happy to contribute to the popularization of the achievements of the life sciences industry,” says Viktorija Pukėnaitė-Pigagienė, Director of the Communication and Marketing Department of the National Library.

While visitors get acquainted with some of the industry achievements representing Lithuania, the agency invites other innovators of the life sciences industry (GMI) to present their innovations. The stand which will be updated this autumn and is planned to be exhibited in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda in various open spaces, during events and exhibitions until the end of this year.
