German innovators have solutions for the paper industry
Carbonauten has developed a system for industry, companies and municipalities that is immediately effective in reducing CO2 emissions and costs.
It includes the production of an innovative material category NET Materials® (Negative Emission Technology). NET Materials® consist of a combination of CO2-reducing biocarbons with different binders. The biocarbons are produced at decentralised locations worldwide from local biogenic residues and problematic materials by means of advanced pyrolytic carbonisation. As an attractive by-product, large quantities of surplus, base-load renewable energy are generated in the process.
Each tonne of carbonaute biocarbon stores permanently up to 3.3 tonnes of CO2.
The carbonaut system appears to be an attractive solution for the paper industry in many respects. It combines the generation of base-load renewable energy from biomass residues with the carbonation of the problematic materials paper rejects and paper sludge. The first paper mills are interested in pilot plants. With up to 20 carbonators near a paper mill, at least 160 GWh of thermal energy, 32,000 t of carbon and 100,000 t of CO2 allowances are produced annually. Carbonauten co-invests and operates in the sites.
