2021 Global 100 ranking of the world’s most sustainable corporations
Two companies of Baltic sea region earned a spot on Top 5 in Corporate Knights’ latest index of 100 world’s most sustainable companies.
The Global 100 list is an annual ranking of corporate sustainability performance compiled by an independent consultancy Corporate Knights. This year Corporate Knights analyzed 8,080 companies against global industry peers. The ranking is based on an assessment of up to 24 quantitative key performance indicators. They are ranging from environmental performance indicators to resource management, employee management, financial management, clean revenue and supplier performance.
Ørsted from Denmark ranked as the most sustainable energy company for three years in a row. Corporate Knights names Ørsted second-most sustainable company across sectors in the 2021 Global 100 index.
Ørsted stands out as a global frontrunner among green and sustainable companies. Newly appointed CEO, Mads Nipper, welcomes the company’s high ranking in the prestigious index: “We’re delighted with our continued high ranking in the Global 100, which reflects both our determination in driving a sustainable and profitable business and our commitment to be a catalyst for the global green energy transformation.”
The green energy major shares key learnings from its own transformation. “The world must halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and as nearly 75 % of global carbon emissions come from the use of energy, a fast global transition to renewables is vital. This requires businesses and politicians alike to dare lean forward and make bold near-term decisions that accelerate the green energy build-out,” points out CEO of Ørsted.
Neste from Finland ranked as the world’s 4th most sustainable company. This marks the company’s 15th consecutive inclusion on the Global 100 list. Neste has been included on the list continuously for longer than any other energy company in the world.

Many businesses are continuously improving their sustainability efforts and placing on the list gets more difficult every year. According to Corporate Knights, Neste continues in a top position thanks to its industry-leading sustainability focus, and especially due to its excellent performance in clean revenue and clean investment indicators.
