Estiko-Plastar developed packaging for Balbiino from recycled materials
Estiko-Plastar developed a unique ice cream package for Balbiino, the largest ice cream manufacturer in Estonia, 50% of which is made using recycled material.
Uncle Eskimo ice creams will be the first to be sold in innovative packaging with a smaller footprint. It is a unique ice cream package in the entire Baltic Sea and Scandinavian region.
According to Kaido Saluranna, CEO of Balbiino, a large part of the environmental footprint in ice cream production is plastic packaging, for which the company has been trying to find more economical alternatives for years.
“Talking about our wishes with a good partner, packaging manufacturer Estiko-Plastar, we reached a unique packaging in the ice cream market, 50% of which has already been used in plastic. Without losing the opportunity to recycle the packaging, “said Salurand.
Uncle Eskimo cone, cup and stick ice creams will be the first to receive a more environmentally friendly packaging. In the future, it is planned to place all Balbiino impulse products in a more environmentally friendly casing.
“One year, Uncle Eskimo uses 7,000 tons of packaging for stick and waffle ice cream. This means that in the future, we will already halve the production of primary plastics by this step. We are also pleased that the unique 50-50 packaging can later be recycled,” Salurand described the impact on the environment.
According to Meelis Jürgens, CEO of Estiko-Plastar, companies are increasingly using recyclable and renewable raw material in the packaging of their products. “We are very pleased to be a cooperation partner and a leader in this process,” said Jürgens.
