The EU’s Single-Use Plastics Ban
The EU no longer allows certain single-use plastic items to be placed on the Member States market. Marking requirements enter into force as well.
Overview
Certain single-use plastic products must be marked with a view to reducing the impact of these products on the environment.
From 3 July 2021, EU Member States shall, through their national legislation, ensure that certain single-use plastic products which are placed on their market bear a marking on the packaging or product itself. The marking concerns these single-use plastic products:
- Sanitary towels (pads), tampons and tampon applicators;
- Wet wipes, i.e. pre-wetted personal care and domestic wipes;
- Tobacco products with filters and filters marketed for use in combination with tobacco products;
- Cups for beverages.
