Elcogen will develop solid oxide fuel cell and stack production facility
Elcogen, a leading European solid oxide fuel cell manufacturer headquartered in Estonia, has welcomed the President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, to its headquarters in Tallinn.
Enn Õunpuu, founder and CEO of Elcogen, and Henri Kaar, CFO, showed the President around its 2,000 square metre, state-of-the-art cleantech production and R&D facility, which includes a manufacturing capacity of 1.5 MW in annual SOFC unit cell production.
The Presidential tour comes after the Company announced in March that it had signed an agreement with Mainor Ülemiste AS to develop a 50 MW solid oxide fuel cell and stack (200 MW solid oxide electrolysis cell) production facility at the Ülemiste City business campus in Tallinn.
Elcogen’s clean technology is an enabler of efficient and emission-free distributed power generation, offering a primary energy conversion efficiency to electricity of over 70% – a global record for energy conversion.
The Company’s unique portfolio of SOFC technology that operates at 650°C enables lower-cost materials to be used and its stack and CHP system design is more efficient – providing a cost saving, viable solution to clean energy production and storage.
Enn Õunpuu, founder and CEO of Elcogen, said: “Elcogen were honoured to welcome the President to our headquarters in Talinn, where we demonstrated our leading solid oxide fuel cell technology and discussed plans for future growth.
Our business model is based on producing cost effective, highly efficient and robust fuel cells and fuel cell stacks at high volume – a strategy that will enable global players to deploy cleantech solutions on a large scale.
Estonia, and indeed Europe as a whole, is at a pivotal moment in the energy transition. Elcogen is well positioned to facilitate the decarbonisation of energy and reductions in the amount of air pollution in our atmosphere thanks to our innovative technology.”
Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Estonia, commented: “Elcogen is a prime example of Estonian innovation as one of the major players in clean technology and the broader European energy transition.”
